Evil Dead Burn opened July 10 to a 77% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics liked it. But the real conversation this weekend isn’t the film itself, it’s what happens after the credits roll. There are two post-credits scenes. Both are franchise-shaking. Here’s the breakdown.
Scene One: The Curse Walks Out the Door
Maude Davey’s Polly, a Price family member who once worked with Professor Knowby before he discovered the first Book of the Dead,escapes the house still fully Deadite-possessed. A passing motorist stops to help her. She passes the curse directly to them. It’s a clean, chilling handoff that sets up another modern-day chapter, following the same relay-race structure the film established in its opening sequence, which picked up directly from where Evil Dead Rise left off.
Scene Two: Alyssa Sutherland Survived the Wood Chipper
Nobody saw this coming. The second scene cuts to the crematorium where the unclaimed ashes of Ellie Bixler have been sitting since Evil Dead Rise‘s ending. Alyssa Sutherland appears in a surprise cameo, still Deadite-possessed, very much alive, and kills the cremator’s daughter. This breaks the franchise’s own rules. No Evil Dead character has ever returned after their body was completely destroyed. The implication is that the different versions of the Book of the Dead seen across Rise and Burn may contain incantations capable of reviving previously killed Deadites, which raises the stakes for every future installment and opens the door for other fan favourites to return.
What the Director Says
Vaniček told Screen Rant the whole point was to leave audiences physically drained, “Just breathe. Just take some fresh air. That’s the whole goal of the movie.” He delivered.
