Godzilla Minus Zero Unleashes a Devastating New Trailer Ahead of November Release

Godzilla is returning to destroy Japan once again, and the latest trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero suggests that humanity’s second chance at rebuilding may be short-lived. Following the success of Godzilla Minus One, director Takashi Yamazaki is bringing the franchise back with a sequel that promises larger-scale destruction while keeping its postwar human drama at the center. The new footage raises the stakes for the Shikishima family and teases another terrifying chapter in Toho’s iconic monster saga.

Godzilla Minus Zero Trailer Teases Another Catastrophe

Toho and GKIDS have released a new trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero, offering another look at the highly anticipated sequel. The footage opens with a chilling warning from Dr. Ogata, played by Jun Kunimura, before showing Japan descending into chaos as Godzilla threatens the country once again.

The trailer features desperate evacuations, scenes of widespread destruction, and Godzilla unleashing his devastating heat ray. Akiko, the young girl at the heart of the Shikishima family, is also seen praying amid the unfolding disaster. The footage closes in on the film’s grim outlook for humanity, with the tagline declaring, “Everything ends here.”

What Is Godzilla Minus Zero About?

Set in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One, the sequel follows Japan as it struggles to recover from the devastation of World War II and Godzilla’s previous attack. Just as the country begins rebuilding its shattered communities, another crisis threatens to destroy the fragile peace.

Ryunosuke Kamiki returns as Kōichi Shikishima, alongside Minami Hamabe as Noriko. The film continues their story as they attempt to build a future amid the consequences of the previous film’s events.

Yamazaki returns as writer, director, and visual effects supervisor after Godzilla Minus One earned widespread acclaim and won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 2024. The sequel aims to expand the scale of the spectacle without abandoning the human perspective that made its predecessor stand out.

Godzilla Minus Zero Is Heading to IMAX

The sequel also marks a major technical milestone as the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX, using IMAX-certified digital cameras and image and sound optimization designed for the format.

Godzilla Minus Zero will receive special IMAX early-access screenings in North America on November 3, coinciding with Godzilla Day. The film will then open widely in North American theaters on November 6, 2026. Its Japanese theatrical release is also scheduled for November 3.

With Yamazaki back at the helm and the Shikishima family facing another seemingly impossible catastrophe, Godzilla Minus Zero is shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest Japanese monster-movie releases.
