The first full-length trailer for the upcoming football horror Him has dropped – and it’s a brutal look at the cost of chasing fame.
“What are you willing to sacrifice?” a voice asks as the footage begins. The film stars Marlon Wayans as Isaiah White, a legendary quarterback on the brink of retirement, and Tyriq Withers as Cameron Cade, a rising star about to break into the NFL. But on the eve of the all-important Scouting Combine, Cameron suffers a devastating brain injury that threatens to end his career before it starts.
According to the official synopsis:
“Just when all seems lost, Cam gets a lifeline from his hero, Isaiah White — an eight-time championship winner and cultural icon — who invites him to train at his secluded compound with his influencer wife, Elsie White. But as training intensifies, Isaiah’s charm begins to twist into something far darker, pulling Cam into a dangerous spiral that could cost him far more than his career.”
The trailer teases Isaiah’s disturbing methods: “In this game, violence is rewarded,” he tells his protégé. “So learn to enjoy it.” Elsie (Julia Fox) warns Cameron that he doesn’t have to go through with it, but he insists he’s “never been more certain of anything” in his life.
Produced by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us, Nope), Him is directed by Justin Tipping, who co-wrote the screenplay with Skip Bronkie and Zack Akers. The cast also features Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, and Naomi Grossman.
Him hits theaters on September 19.
