Headline: Paul Rudd and Jack Black Take on a Meta-Horror Nightmare
It’s confirmed: the Anaconda reboot is not what you think. While the first images show a tense scene, new details reveal this film is a self-aware, comedic horror film in the vein of director Tom Gormican’s previous work, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. The plot follows a group of friends facing mid-life crises who decide to remake their favorite movie from their youth, the 1997 cult classic Anaconda. Their adventure takes a deadly turn when they find themselves in a real fight for survival against a giant snake.
Paul Rudd, who is also an executive producer, described the film as a “genuine kick in the ass” and noted the script’s “meta angles” were a major draw. Jack Black echoed the sentiment, praising Gormican and co-writer Kevin Etten for bringing the same “meta magic energy” to this project. The film, which has officially completed filming, is now in post-production, with a festive release date of December 25th, 2025.
The cast includes familiar faces such as Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, and Daniela Melchior, who will join Rudd and Black on this ill-fated cinematic quest. While plot details remain carefully guarded, the creative team has promised a film that delivers both laughs and genuine scares, proving that even a cheesy ’90s monster flick can be re-imagined as a fresh, terrifying, and hilarious modern horror-comedy.
