The marketing campaign for Evil Dead Burn is starting to lean fully into nightmare territory. A newly released image from the upcoming sequel gives horror fans their clearest look yet at Luciane Buchanan transformed into a Deadite, and it’s already fueling excitement around what could become the franchise’s most brutal entry in years.
The image, released through Entertainment Weekly, shows Buchanan in a grotesque possessed state, continuing the series’ long tradition of exaggerated physical horror and disturbing demonic transformations. Unlike some of the slicker horror franchises dominating theaters right now, Evil Dead still feels proudly ugly in the best possible way.
Buchanan, best known for Netflix’s “The Night Agent,” plays Thya in the film, one of several family members trapped inside what’s being described as a “family reunion from hell.” The official synopsis reveals that after the death of her husband, a woman named Alice seeks comfort with her in-laws in their isolated family home, only for the gathering to collapse into chaos as Deadite possession spreads through the household.
What’s making fans especially optimistic is the creative direction behind the project. The film is directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček, whose creature horror film Infested earned major praise for its aggressive pacing and suffocating atmosphere. Sam Raimi reportedly hired Vaniček personally after being impressed by his work, which immediately gave the project credibility among longtime horror fans.
The cast also includes Souheila Yacoub, Hunter Doohan, Tandi Wright, George Pullar, and Maude Davey, with franchise veterans Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, Bruce Campbell, and Lee Cronin all attached behind the scenes as producers or executive producers.
Another reason anticipation is growing so quickly is because the recent trailers strongly suggest Evil Dead Burn may connect directly to previous films rather than functioning as a completely standalone story. Fans have already begun analyzing footage for callbacks and possible returning characters tied to Evil Dead Rise.
The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 10, 2026, after recently moving up from its original late-July release date.
At this point, Evil Dead Burn doesn’t look interested in reinventing the franchise. It looks interested in pushing it to its most vicious extreme yet. And honestly, that’s probably exactly what horror fans want.
