Jane Schoenbrun is taking the slasher movie somewhere considerably stranger than a simple revival. After exploring the uneasy relationship between identity, memory, and media in We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, Schoenbrun turns those ideas toward the mythology of a fictional horror franchise. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma uses a slasher revival as the starting point for a story that blurs filmmaking, fandom, desire, and reality. Now, audiences who missed its theatrical run have a streaming date to circle.
MUBI has announced that Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma will stream exclusively on the platform beginning October 2, 2026.
The film follows Kris, a young filmmaker brought in to revive the struggling Camp Miasma slasher franchise. Her search for the original film’s reclusive star, Billy, played by Gillian Anderson, leads the two women into an increasingly surreal and blood-soaked world of fear, desire, and delirium. Hannah Einbinder stars as Kris, with Jack Haven playing the franchise’s killer, Little Death.
Schoenbrun wrote and directed the film, following We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow. The filmmaker has described the new movie as a deliberate tonal expansion from those earlier works, bringing more humor and playfulness into its exploration of identity and media mythology.
The ensemble also includes Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, and Quintessa Swindell.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma premiered as the opening film of the Un Certain Regard section at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival before its theatrical release in August. The movie is already available digitally, while MUBI’s streaming premiere arrives October 2.
MUBI is also giving the film a suitably retro afterlife. A genuine pan-and-scan VHS edition is being taken on tour during October, with the physical release also coming to the MUBI Shop.
