The next chapter in The Conjuring Universe has added another familiar face.
Matthias Schweighöfer, best known for Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves, and Oppenheimer, has officially joined the cast of The Conjuring: First Communion, the upcoming prequel set to explore the early years of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. His role is being kept under wraps for now.
Schweighöfer joins a growing ensemble that already includes Garrett Wareing as young Ed Warren and Amanda Fix as young Lorraine Warren. The film is directed by Rodrigue Huart from a screenplay by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, though Warner Bros. has yet to reveal any plot details.
It’s also still unknown whether franchise stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will make appearances, but the story is expected to focus primarily on the Warrens’ earliest investigations before they became the legendary demonologists fans know today.
The Conjuring: First Communion is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 10, 2027, becoming the tenth film in the ever-expanding Conjuring Universe. A television series set in the same universe also remains in development, signaling that Warner Bros. isn’t done exploring the franchise anytime soon.
