One night. One house. One continuous shot. No cuts. No escape.
The trailer for Bury the Devil just dropped, and it’s unlike anything else in the possession horror space right now. The film hits select theaters and VOD on August 21.
Director Adam O’Brien (Mom) shot the entire film in a single, unbroken take, a genuinely radical choice for the possession subgenre. O’Brien explains the decision plainly: “This film depicts the most harrowing 90 minutes of our protagonist’s life, and I felt that the most visceral way to really feel this was to do a single-shot film. We are with her every step and misstep she takes, through the unraveling of the mystery to the horror of her discovery.”
The script comes from John Petrizzi and Brad Hodson. The story follows Julia, a nurse who finds herself trapped in the home of her dementia patient when she begins to sense something deeply wrong. Something demonic seeps through the walls of the old house. With nowhere to run and no one coming, Julia must fight to drive the evil out before it’s too late.
Dawn Ford, Emmanuelle Lussier Martinez, Bill Rowat, and Mark Antony Krupa star. O’Brien produces alongside Philip Kalin-Hajdu (The Sacrifice Game) and Benoit Beaulieu (Turbo Kid).
This is also just the beginning. Bury the Devil is the first installment in a planned trilogy, with prequel Bury the Devil: Origin already in development under O’Brien.
Bury the Devil opens in select theaters and on VOD on August 21.
