Watching Pennywise on a regular screen was terrifying enough. Now imagine him filling an 87-foot dome on every side of you.
Cosm just announced its first-ever horror experience. The immersive technology company previously brought The Matrix, Harry Potter, and Willy Wonka to Shared Reality. Next up: Andy Muschietti’s IT (2017). It gets the full treatment starting August 28 at Cosm venues in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Atlanta. Detroit follows at a later date.
The production brings together Cosm, Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, Little Cinema, and Double Dream, the company founded by Andy and Barbara Muschietti. Together, they rebuilt the film for Cosm’s 12K+ LED domes. The Derry sewers, haunted woods, and shadowy streets now wrap entirely around the audience. On top of that, intensified sound design and dynamic environmental effects supplement the original film. The result, according to Cosm, redefines the jump scare entirely, with Pennywise coming at you face-to-face.
Alexis Scalice, Cosm’s VP of Business Development, put it plainly, “We are taking horror beyond the frame, creating an immersive experience to deliver thrills unlike anything fans have experienced before.”
Furthermore, Jay Rinsky, Chief Creative Officer at Little Cinema, added, “IT teaches us fear, and we’re treating every shadow, every silence, and every red balloon as a chance to invent something the medium hasn’t seen yet.”
