Horror fans finally have their first official look at Crystal Lake, the upcoming television series expanding the legendary Friday the 13th universe. Newly released images from the show offer a glimpse into the dark origins of the infamous Camp Crystal Lake mythology.
The series is produced by A24 and created by Brad Caleb Kane, who serves as showrunner. The project acts as a prequel to the original 1980 slasher film Friday the 13th and is expected to premiere on the streaming platform Peacock later this year.
The show stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, the tragic mother whose actions eventually spark the events of the classic horror franchise. In the story, Pamela abandons her dreams of becoming a singer to raise her son Jason, a child with special needs. After Jason’s devastating fate, grief and anger push her toward a darker path.
Alongside Cardellini, the series features a supporting cast including William Catlett, Cameron Scoggins, Devin Kessler, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Young actor Callum Vinson will portray a younger version of Jason Voorhees, whose story lies at the center of the franchise’s mythology.
The newly released images tease the eerie atmosphere fans expect from the series, hinting at the beginnings of the cursed legend surrounding Camp Crystal Lake. With Friday the 13th continuing to be one of horror’s most iconic cultural touchstones, the reveal of these first images feels like a fitting way to celebrate one of horror’s most iconic franchises.
While an exact premiere date has not yet been announced, anticipation continues to build as the series prepares to bring the origins of the Voorhees family, and the terror of Crystal Lake, to television.
