The upcoming Scary Movie reboot officially received its R rating this week, and the description alone already makes it sound like the franchise is returning to its completely unfiltered roots.
According to the MPA, the film is rated R for “strong violence, graphic nudity, crude sexual content, drug use, and pervasive language.” Honestly, that sounds exactly like the kind of outrageous energy fans expected from a proper Scary Movie comeback.
The reboot releases in theaters on June 5, 2026, and brings the Wayans family back into the franchise after years away. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall are all reportedly involved, giving the reboot much closer ties to the original films than later sequels ever had.
This time, the movie is expected to parody modern horror trends instead of early-2000s slashers, with references to prestige horror, legacy sequels, and newer genre hits like Terrifier and Longlegs.
Modern horror has become so serious lately that Scary Movie suddenly has a huge amount of material to make fun of again.
