The Conjuring Is Getting a Prequel, And It Just Found Its Young Ed and Lorraine Warren

The Conjuring Universe keeps expanding, and this time, it’s going back to where it all began.

The Conjuring: First Communion, the upcoming prequel film already dated for September 10, 2027 by Warner Bros., has found its two leads. Garrett Wareing (Ransom Canyon) steps in as young Ed Warren, while Amanda Fix (Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma) takes on young Lorraine Warren. Deadline broke the casting news, with Dread Central first reporting the scoop.

French director Rodrigue Huart helms the film from a script by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg. Plot details remain under wraps. As for whether Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will appear at all, nothing has been confirmed, the film will at minimum focus primarily on the younger versions of their iconic roles.

First Communion becomes the tenth film in The Conjuring Universe, following nine entries, The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun 2, and last year’s The Conjuring: Last Rites. A Conjuring Universe television series is also reportedly in development at HBO Max.

Franchise producer Peter Safran previously teased the future of the series: “There’s so much more to it that we haven’t dug into. I think there are really exciting ways to go with both film and television. People have been on this journey with us for a dozen years now. I think they want more.”

Judging by the box office, he’s right.
