Lionsgate is releasing brand new VHS and Blu-ray editions of The Blair Witch Project through Lionsgate Limited. Both go up for pre-order today, with a release date of October 13, 2026. Yes, October 13. And, yes a VHS. Indeed this is real.
The Big Deal- A New Cut, Finally in the US
Both releases include the filmmaker-approved 2024 theatrical cut. Restored from original Hi8 tapes and 16mm film, this version has screened internationally at festivals and theatrically abroad. American audiences, however, have never had access to it, until now. That distinction alone makes this release significant for horror collectors.
What’s on the VHS
Lionsgate’s “Be Kind Rewind Edition” presents the 2024 theatrical cut exclusively. Found footage on VHS is simply the most authentic format imaginable, and Lionsgate clearly agrees.
What’s on the Blu-ray
Three versions of the film come with the Definitive Collector’s Edition Blu-ray. First, the filmmaker-approved 2024 theatrical cut. Second, the festival cut, both restored from original Hi8 and 16mm materials. Third, the original 35mm theatrical exhibition version. Every significant version of the film, in one package.
The physical set also includes a new poster by renowned illustrator Ken Taylor. Inside, collectors get a 104-page booklet featuring the original production journal, raw footage log, and a prop list with handwritten notes.
The Bonus Features
New “Lionsgate Limited Extras” include fresh interviews with actors Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams. Additionally, a tribute to cinematographer Neal Fredericks explores the film’s visual legacy. Other new features cover the Blair Witch’s presence in other media, shooting location tours, and the film’s archive at both the University of Pittsburgh Special Horror Collection and the Museum of Pop Culture. All legacy bonus content from previous releases carries over in full.
