DC Just Made a Body Horror Movie, And the Clayface Trailer Is Here to Melt Your Face Off

Forget the capes and the gadgets. DC’s next big release is a body horror film, and the official trailer just confirmed it looks genuinely disturbing.

Warner Bros. and DC dropped the full trailer for Clayface today. It opens in theaters on October 23, 2026. DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran previously called it “an incredible body horror film that reveals a compelling origin of a classic Batman villain.” The trailer backs that up completely.

Tom Rhys Harries plays Matt Hagen, a Gotham street kid who claws his way to Hollywood stardom. A local crime boss then leaves him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by everyone, Matt seeks out a cutting-edge experimental treatment that restores his appearance. The catch, however, is brutal, it also destroys his grip on reality. He spirals into an all-consuming, revenge-fuelled descent into something no longer human. At its core, the film explores identity, obsession, corrosive love, and the price of scientific ambition.

James Watkins (The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil) directs. The screenplay comes from Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) and Hossein Amini (Drive). Additionally, the cast alongside Harries includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James.

DC Studios describes Clayface as the studio’s first-ever foray into horror. Moreover, based on what the trailer shows, melting flesh, fractured identity, and a monster born from betrayal, it won’t be a comfortable October watch. That’s entirely the point.

Clayface opens in theaters October 23, 2026.
