A new project inspired by the legendary Friday the 13th franchise is generating buzz among horror fans. The official trailer has been released for Ghosts in the Fog, an upcoming animated fan film featuring Jason Voorhees, offering a fresh and stylistic take on the classic slasher icon.
The project comes from Womp Stomp Films, the team behind the popular Never Hike Alone fan-film series. Ghosts in the Fog marks a notable milestone for the franchise’s fan community, as it will be the first animated story centered around Jason Voorhees.
According to the filmmakers, the short film takes place four years before the events of Never Hike Alone and follows a group of hikers who wander into a mysterious fog surrounding the cursed grounds of Crystal Lake. As they attempt to find their way out, they soon encounter the deadly presence that has haunted the forest for decades.
The animation blends 2D character work with 3D environments, presented largely in black-and-white visuals accented by bold splashes of color inspired by the graphic-novel style of Sin City. The creators also promise several elaborate animated kill sequences that push the limits of gore within the Friday the 13th universe.
While Ghosts in the Fog is an independent fan production and not officially affiliated with the studio-run franchise, the Never Hike Alone series has developed a strong following among horror audiences over the years. The new animated chapter is currently planned to release in November 2026.
With the trailer now online, excitement is growing among fans eager to see Jason Voorhees brought to life in animation for the first time.
